Standards
don't exist for measuring harmful mold levels, said Jay Sall of Evans
Environmental and Geosciences.
Are
unseen mold and dust causing headaches and breathing difficulties? How
can all of this be scientifically tested, remediated, prevented?
Truth is, a lot of schools have mold problems, and teachers and
children are suffering from the effects of poor air quality conditions.
And, as leaves fall, allergies pick up. Molds can be a problem with some people, and they're especially potent on warm, damp days when it's had a
chance to grow. Children can have a problem with the mold mostly when
they're jumping in the leaves.
A law about mold? In 2001, California passed the Toxic Mold Protection Act to help define
mold limits and determine the health threatposed by indoor molds.
Today, the law remains stalled, waiting for the senate to allocate the
necessary funding to start research. It's a work in progress, and it's going to take some time.
